About Otoso
Otosō (お屠蘇) is a traditional New Year’s sake enjoyed in Japan to welcome health, longevity, and good fortune in the year ahead. The custom dates back more than a thousand years, when sake was infused with aromatic medicinal herbs believed to ward off illness and renew the spirit at the turning of the year. Traditionally shared on New Year’s Day from youngest to eldest, Otosō symbolizes the passing of vitality through the household and the collective hope for a healthy year to come. At Sequoia Sake, we prepare our Otosō using our house-made Hon-Mirin as a key ingredient, honoring this time-honored ritual while expressing it through our own craft. We invite you to enjoy this first public tasting of 2026 as a toast to fresh beginnings.
